Unblocktober Schools Tour: Sign Up Your School
Unblocktober 2025 marks the start of a brand-new schools tour, bringing the UK’s national drain awareness campaign directly into classrooms. Over the next 12 months, our team will be visiting primary schools across the nation, sharing lessons and advice on how children can do their bit to help save our sewers, seas and waterways.
This year’s theme, Don’t Block Our Future, tackles the Kitchen Sink Crisis - the way we dispose of cooking oil and everyday waste items like wet wipes. Many of us care about pollution, but don’t always know the right way to act. These fun, interactive school sessions will help children understand what really belongs down the drain, what doesn’t, and why these choices matter for our environment.
By signing up, your school can give pupils the chance to become Unblocktober Heroes - earning certificates and stickers while learning practical habits they can take home to their families.
What is the Unblocktober Schools Tour?
The Unblocktober Schools Tour is a new national outreach programme led by Lanes Group, the organisers of the Unblocktober campaign. Across the next year, we’ll be delivering six primary school visits, designed to give pupils a fun, memorable introduction to environmental responsibility and drain health.
Each session is 1–2 hours long, depending on the time available, and combines learning, discussion and interactive activities.
What’s included in a school session?
Every visit follows a simple but engaging structure:
- An introduction to Unblocktober: what the campaign is, why it exists and how everyone can play a part.
- What should go down the drain: teaching the “Three Ps”: pee, poo and paper.
- What shouldn’t go down the drain: from wet wipes and nappies to fat, oil and grease, pupils learn about the hidden dangers in everyday items.
- Interactive demonstration: in two-hour sessions, children see first-hand how wet wipes don’t break down in water, unlike toilet paper, and how these items combine with oils to form fatbergs.
- Certificates and stickers: every child who completes the session becomes an official Unblocktober Hero.
Why take part?
By inviting the Unblocktober team into your school, you’ll be giving pupils:
- A chance to engage with a real-world environmental issue in a fun and practical way.
- Lessons that link directly to PSHE and science topics, covering sustainability, waste and community responsibility.
- The opportunity to see their own role in preventing pollution and protecting drains and waterways.
- Memorable resources - like factfiles, posters and stickers - that encourage them to spread the message at home.
Unblocktober goes beyond what happens in October. It’s about building awareness and habits that last all year round, and schools play a key role in making this happen.
